Monday, September 9, 2002 Denver, Colorado (September 9, 2002): Intermap Technologies, Inc (IMP.a - CDNX) today announced it has been awarded a contract to demonstrate it's newly acquired technology that literally 'sees through trees'. King County Department of Transportation, Renton Washington, awarded Intermap a US $164,600 contract to demonstrate its proprietary foliage penetrating technology for terrain elevation mapping.
"We needed mapping and the collection of terrain elevation data to comply with the Endangered Species Act and the Sensitive Areas Ordinance for King County" said Michael Leathers, King County Project Manager. "The special 'tree penetration' technology offered by Intermap should help us get a detailed terrain map, even through the dense forest cover here in Washington State."
Intermap will be providing the County with a digital surface model, a digital terrain model and orthorectified radar imagery. Intermap will be using its proprietary X and P band interferometric radar technology for this work. The X-band system will provide the surface model while the vegetation penetration qualities of the P-band will give the terrain data.
"We recently acquired the rights to this proprietary P-band foliage penetrating technology" said Harry Utter, Intermap Director of Sales. "Intermap has always been a leader in mapping using interferometric radar data particularly with high resolution X-band technology. We are excited to be able to demonstrate this new P-band technology and its utility in highly vegetated areas."
Using its proprietary technology, Intermap is employed worldwide by governments and private industry to acquire data over large areas accurately, quickly, and economically. The Company uses this data to generate maps, terrain elevation data and orthorectified images in several highly automated production facilities. Map products are available at the Company's GLOBAL Terrain (www.globalterrain.com) e-commerce Internet site. Intermap is building a global database of digital elevation models. The Company's maps are used in a wide range of applications including planning and engineering projects, in navigation systems and to enrich satellite images
Intermap's main office is located in Denver, Colorado, and has Canadian offices in Calgary, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario and in Munich, Germany. Its Web site is www.intermaptechnologies.com.
