Company's NEXTMap wide area map data shown to be cost-effective source for flood risk mapping in non-detailed study areas

DENVER —  Intermap Technologies today announced that its high-resolution NEXTMap 3D elevation models were accepted as a source for updating FEMA flood maps. Acceptance of the data was announced at the recent Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) national conference in Orlando, Florida. 

"This is long-awaited recognition of the ability of our NEXTMap elevation data to enable the creation of accurate flood models that can provide timely and cost-effective flood map updates across the country," said Garth Lawrence, Intermap's senior vice president, strategic business. "What is truly exciting is the life- and cost-saving potential of our NEXTMap data when used to update FEMA flood risk maps. 

Government agencies and insurance companies worldwide have long used Intermap's NEXTMap digital elevation models for a wide variety of purposes, including flood modeling, engineering, visualization, environmental planning, and GIS support. The Company's NEXTMap elevation data has been used in Europe to update flood risk maps for the insurance industry. New flood risk products based on NEXTMap data are currently being used in the United Kingdom,  Germany, and Switzerland, and are in the final stages of production for France and the Czech Republic. 

Mapping data is currently available for more than 56% of the contiguous U.S. as the Company works to complete the final editing and processing of the remainder of the country during the coming months.
