What is a Webinar? What is a Webinar? A Webinar is a seminar that is conducted on the World Wide Web (Web + seminar = Webinar) and viewed with a computer that has an Internet connection. Organizations provide Webinars on any topic that would be appropriate for a traditional seminar, and, just as in a traditional seminar, experts on a particular subject present visual and audio information. Most Webinars include a visual presentation as well as an audio broadcast that is accessed either over the computer and/or via a toll-free (no cost to the participant) telephone number.
Where are Webinars held? How far must I travel to attend a Webinar? Because the content of the Webinar is delivered directly to your computer, there's no need to travel anywhere. You may “attend” a Webinar anywhere there's a computer with Web access: your office, at home, or while traveling. Webinars allow the sharing of information without the travel and other costs associated with traditional seminars and workshops.
How do I participate in a Webinar? To produce a Webinar, most organizations provide a Web address that allows access to the event. This Web-based functionality allows for the presentation of visual slides (including pictures, text, and other information) as well as the broadcast of the speakers' voices. In some cases, the audio portion of the presentation is accessed via a toll-free (no cost to the participant) telephone number rather than over the computer.
How do I ask questions of presenters during a Webinar? Many Webinars allow you to ask questions via a text-typing tool in the Webinar's interface: simply type your question at any time during the Webinar, and the question will be forwarded to the presenter(s) so that they can respond.
How much participation is required of me? From simply watching the slide presentation and listening to the audio broadcast, to asking as many questions of the presenter(s) as you like, your level of participation is completely up to you.
Will other people be aware that I am attending? Unless you choose to announce your participation via the text-typing tool, only the hosting company knows that you are attending a Webinar.
Must I attend the Webinar at the time that it is presented? Most Webinars are recorded at the time that they are presented, and then made available on the organization's Web site so that they can be seen at your convenience. This method of viewing does not permit the opportunity to directly ask questions of the presenter(s). What is the cost to attend a Webinar hosted by Intermap Technologies? Intermap hosts its Terrainscapes™ Webinars free of charge to all participants.
