2 Mar, 2006 Denver, Colorado (March 2, 2006): Intermap Technologies Corp. (IMP:TSX) announced today that it has signed a letter of intent with GeoContent GmbH to jointly develop a 3-dimensional digital map of Germany in full color, combining GeoContents aerial imagery with Intermap's highly accurate 3-D digital elevation model. The joint effort will produce the most accurate 3D map product of Germany in existence.
Based in Magdeburg, Germany, GeoContent is a leading German provider of digital geospatial information and the only company with a countrywide digital aerial image (DLK(R)). As part of its NEXTMap(R) Deutschland mapping program, Intermap recently acquired terrain data from the Stuttgart area and will map Germany in its entirety by the end of 2006. Stuttgart was the first region to be mapped in 3D in order to address immediate interest from German automotive manufacturers for intelligent transportation system applications.
As the NEXTMap Deutschland elevation data becomes available, the two companies will merge their datasets-the existing GeoContent imagery will be geo-referenced and "draped" over Intermap's digital terrain model. The companies will jointly market the new offering. In addition, GeoContent offers a house specific address layer for the whole of Germany which matches the combined data product.
"A countrywide 3D image dataset combined with additional geo-referenced data presents numerous and compelling applications for not only the traditional geospatial data users, but also for a wide variety of other markets," said Dr. Manfred Krischke, managing director of Intermap Technologies GmbH. "As we progress with our NEXTMap Deutschland program and merging our data with GeoContent's imagery, we look forward to being able to offer the most accurate and highest quality nationwide 3D imagery dataset ever produced for Germany. High-quality aerial imagery is key to successfully creating this offering, and we believe we have found this in GeoContent's dataset."
"The cooperation with Intermap represents a significant step forward in our strategy of integrating our imagery with other countrywide datasets," said Dr. Matthias Bachmann, technical director of GeoContent. "The NEXTMap products enable us to guarantee high-level accuracy data and the new 3D imagery product will bring innovative offerings for any kind of business application related to geospatial information."
Under its NEXTMap program, Intermap maps whole countries, generating comprehensive, current, accurate and affordable digital elevation and image datasets. Currently, Intermap's coverage includes Great Britain, Indonesia, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu with the United States and German programs well underway. Further expansion plans for 2006 include the completion of Germany and significant portions of the population centers of the U.S. as well as additional areas in Southeast Asia.
GeoContent is an innovative company located in Magdeburg, Germany.
GeoContent is dedicated to providing high-level data for any business needing spatial information. For this purpose, GeoContent initiated the project "Digital Germany." The project's main objective is to set up a homogeneous and accurate geospatial dataset for the whole area of Germany.
GeoContent's core product is a seamless aerial orthophoto in color, which is flown in summer months at a nominal scale of 1:22.000. This is used as a base layer for additional data such as terrain models, 3D city models and geocoded address points. The project is carried out in two phases: Phase I was designed to build up an initial dataset with an actual coverage of greater than 95% (completed at mid of 2006). In phase II, which started in
2005 with Berlin, the data is updated on an annual basis, mainly in areas with significant changes.
GeoContent also acts as a consultant for its customers by providing value-added services and customized systems solutions in the fields of spatial information systems. For more information, visit http://www.geocontent.de/.
Intermap is digitally remapping entire countries, building unprecedented national databases, called NEXTMap, of highly accurate digital topographic maps (including elevation). Customers purchase Intermap's high-quality, low-cost data to facilitate better decision-making for numerous commercial, governmental, military and consumer applications.
Demand for NEXTMap data is growing as new commercial applications are emerging, including geographical information systems (GIS), engineering planning, transportation, automotive, navigation, flood, irrigation, environmental management and planning, telecommunications network planning, aviation, simulation and 3D visualization. Internet applications include virtual tours, topographic maps and computer games. The products are also used to add interactive intelligence to airborne and satellite images.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Intermap employs more than 250 people worldwide, with offices in Calgary, Ottawa, Munich and Jakarta. Intermap is publicly traded on the TSX under the symbol IMP. For more information, visit www.intermap.com.
