DENVER, Colo. (April 26, 2006): Intermap Technologies Corp. (IMP:TSX) has expanded its online offerings to include countrywide and statewide SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) elevation datasets, contours and Global Mapper geospatial software. All of these offerings complement the Intermap suite of NEXTMap® digital elevation models.
SRTM elevation datasets will supplement the company's NEXTMap® high-resolution datasets while the company collects and builds their national elevation database of countries around the world. The SRTM datasets are available by whole country or group of countries (except for the United States, which is broken into states and territorial islands). The datasets have national boundaries buffered to 12 nautical miles, ocean elevation set to 0 meters and flattened lakes greater than 600 meters in length. Datasets are available in ESRI GRID format or custom formats at a customer's request. The U.S. state and territorial island models are clipped from SRTM DTED® Level 2 data using ESRI's shapefiles of U.S. state boundaries. Country models are clipped from the SRTM DTED® Level 1 data by using ESRI's international country shapefiles.
Intermap's contours, generated from its bare-earth Digital Terrain Model (DTM), are available at various intervals, depending on the customer's application requirement and the terrain characteristics of the area of interest. Contour datasets are available throughout Intermap's DTM areas.
Additionally, Intermap has also added Global Mapper software to its online product offerings. Global Mapper is an easy-to-use, affordable software package for the analysis and viewing of geospatial data. Global Mapper allows users to apply GIS (geographic information system) functionality to raster, elevation and vector datasets and offers conversion, editing and printing capability. A three-dimensional viewing tool is also included.
".We continue to focus on creating products for new markets utilizing our high-accuracy, national NEXTMap elevation datasets",. commented Garth Lawrence, Intermap's senior vice president of business operations. ".We wanted to supplement our elevation datasets with data that has global coverage and the SRTM data was a natural fit. We also recognized there is great demand from customers to easily obtain pre-defined countrywide SRTM datasets. Additionally, Global Mapper is a well-known software package in the geospatial world and a perfect choice for our online data customers who require an easy-to-use, low-priced data viewing and analysis tool.".
Intermap is digitally remapping entire countries, building unprecedented national databases, called NEXTMap, of highly accurate digital topographic maps (including elevation). Customers purchase Intermap's high-quality, low-cost data to facilitate better decision-making for numerous commercial, governmental, military and consumer applications.
Demand for NEXTMap data is growing as new commercial applications are emerging, including geographical information systems (GIS), engineering planning, transportation, automotive, navigation, flood, irrigation, environmental management and planning, telecommunications network planning, aviation, simulation and 3D visualization. Internet applications include virtual tours, topographic maps and computer games. The products are also used to add interactive intelligence to airborne and satellite images.
Headquartered in Denver, Colorado, Intermap employs more than 250 people worldwide, with offices in Calgary, Ottawa, Munich and Jakarta. Intermap is publicly traded on the TSX under the symbol IMP. For more information, visit www.intermap.com.
