NEW YORK — Fast Company's annual Most Innovative Companies issue honors major brands including Facebook, Google, Cisco, Disney, and GE, along with such rising newcomers Intermap Technologies, Foursquare, and Clearwire.

Overall, Fast Company recognized 250 plus companies, including the Top 50, 59 Innovation All-stars culled from past Top 50 honorees, plus ranked the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in 24 categories, including advertising and marketing, biotech, film and TV, media, music, and mobile. Intermap was named in the top 10 mobile companies list that also included Google, Apple, Amazon, Ford, and others.

To create this year's Most Innovative Companies issue, Fast Company's editorial team analyzed information on thousands of businesses across the globe. The result is a package unlike that of any other business media. It's not just about revenue growth and profit margins; it's about identifying creative models and progressive cultures — to define the many forms of innovation that exist across the business landscape.

"It was invigorating to engage with so many exciting new ideas and developments," said Fast Company editor Robert Safian.  "Our goal was to offer a snapshot of the creativity at work in the global marketplace and to inspire the Fast Company audience with illustrations of how powerful and effective business can be."

Fast Company recognized Intermap's AccuTerra product, a navigational application for Apple's iPhone that allows users to track, store, and share their outdoor recreation experiences — all without a WiFi connection. Intermap's high-resolution digital elevation model serves as the foundation map source for AccuTerra.

"It's an incredible honor to be recognized among so many other leading companies in this year's Fast Company list," commented Kevin Thomas, Intermap's vice president of marketing. "Our consumer electronics team has done an outstanding job taking the fundamentals of our digital mapping business and transforming a user's experience on the iPhone with our AccuTerra product line.

"The Company remains focused on innovation throughout our product lines, whether we develop the product directly as we have with AccuTerra or through an enablement strategy with other innovation leaders around the world. This can be evidenced in our automotive, energy, telecommunications, and risk management products that are driving innovation through the use of advanced three-dimensional data of the earth's surface that are solving numerous real-world issues around the globe," Thomas continued.
