NEXTMap digital elevation maps to be used for advanced telecommunications wireless initiative

DENVER & Munich, Germany: Intermap Technologies, a worldwide 3D digital mapping and geospatial solutions company, today announced it has signed an agreement valued at $1.2 million to provide a leading wireless telecommunications company with 3D digital terrain maps for all of Germany and significant portions of surrounding border countries.

The countrywide NEXTMap digital terrain models (DTMs) and digital surface models (DSMs) will enable the optimization of existing wireless networks and give the customer the ability to perform advanced radio network planning in support of new antennae placement for their broad customer base throughout the country. Network planners can determine optimal antennae heights and locations, field strength coverage and predictions, and ensure current and future network advancements are meeting the needs of their customers. The wide area uniform digital elevation product provides a seamless map dataset for all of Germany and border regions, allowing them to expand their current urban coverage throughout the rural areas of the country.

"Wireless companies need the most current and reliable map datasets available in order to cost effectively optimize the performance of their radio planning tools," stated Adam Denman, Intermap's European vice president and managing director. "Our NEXTMap geospatial data provides the kind of detailed information required to determine accurate ground values and obstruction heights that are crucial for the wireless industry to expand their coverage into rural areas that are not yet receiving service."

"Our customer understands that an upfront investment in accurate geospatial data supports their long term vision and desire to maximize services for their end customers," Denman continued. "Without NEXTMap data, wireless companies would have to rely on inconsistent and unreliable maps or be forced to perform time consuming onsite measurements and costly antennae adjustments, thus delaying new services and increasing costs associated with the necessary expansion and consolidation of radio networks. Telecommunications companies in Western Europe and the U.S. can all benefit from the richness of our NEXTMap elevation data − ready for immediate delivery from our geospatial data store."

Intermap will immediately deliver the digital elevation maps from its library of off-the-shelf radar images and elevation models. The countrywide DTMs and DSMs are specifically de-resolved to a 25-meter post to meet the unique needs of the client.
